Dutchess could barely walk when she arrived home to our barn. She has made tremendous progress in just three months. With proper nutrition, exercise and chiropractic work, Dutchess might become sound enough to ride again. We will be happy just to know she is comfortable and happy with her life as Konig's companion!

Meet Dutchess

Dutchess was given this name because she is Konig's girlfriend! (His name means king in German.) Her sire is Sultan, from Holland. Her mother was a registered Thoroughbred from the race track.

She was a dressage schoolmaster, has a kind heart, and is an honest, hard worker — very admirable qualities for a horse who has worked her entire life to serve people who did not return the kindness.

Dutchess was worked into the ground until her body gave out; then she was sold to be used as a brood mare. When she could not conceive, her owner became very angry because she had invested money without the result of a foal. This beautiful horse was headed for slaughter. Fortunately, Second Chance Ranch was able to intervene.
